Our Manifesto

We are the new generation

We are born from the dreams of our ancestors

From the foundation of their faith, we rose

We are a generation that is free to explore and express ourselves

Just like the generations before us, we seek to find our place in this world

To honor our traditions while creating our own

To experience what it means to be Jewish

And express what it means to be Montrealers

We are creators, givers, seekers, and builders

And no matter where our road takes us, Montreal is our home

It is the responsibility of this generation to embody its Jewish values with openness and pride

And though we’re grounded in our roots, we must also seek to invite others into our lives

Reaching out within our community, and beyond it as well

Rethinking what community means, and coming together to unite and inspire

Here’s to the next hundred years, to the next centennial of Federation CJA

To breaking through, coming together, and empowering all succeeding generations of GenMTL

A Message from the President

For over 100 years, Federation has been at the heart of building community, constantly evolving to meet the needs of our community and the people that make up our community. It has also been a personal passion to ensure that the voices of the younger generations are heard, and speak in unison – yet with each perspective carefully considered. This is why I am so proud to be a part of the expansion of Federation CJA’s young adult initiative, GenMTL.

I have watched as this demographic has transformed what it means to be a part of the community. You come together over many heartfelt causes and want to do good. You care, deeply. You inspire us to innovate, to change, to think differently. Through experience trips like Birthright, March of the Living and Honeymoon Israel, through networking and business opportunities through the Richter Jewish Chamber of Commerce, through campus engagement with Hillel and programs tailor-made for young families, like PJ Library – GenMTL is an important new path.

Together we will pave the way for the future of our community. Whether engaging in hands-on volunteering, taking on leadership roles or contributing to the annual campaign, giving back is at the heart of our Jewish value of taking care of one another. And every action makes a significant difference.

Through one of these 5 GenMTL gateways - GenMTL Connects, GenMTL Gives Back, GenMTL Leads, GenMTL Travels and GenMTL Grows – we invite you to find your place. There is something for everyone. Get involved. It starts right here, right now.

This is just the beginning of great things to come.

Steve Sebag
President, GenMTL

As per the recommendation of Canadian health experts, Federation CJA is advocating and practicing social distancing. Emerging research shows people can be contagious without showing symptoms, making it difficult to know who is spreading the disease. In order to \"flatten the curve\" on the pandemic and keep our community safe, we are postponing or cancelling all upcoming events until further notice. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
