Job Summary

Leadership Engagement and Empowerment is identified as one of 5 interconnected and mutually reinforcing Strategic Levers for Impact in the Strategic Plan (2021-2025) of Federation CJA. Leadership engagement and empowerment is defined as “Building community leadership, providing lay and professional development opportunities”. Leadership development, engagement and empowerments is important to the sustainability and strength of philanthropic support by and for the Jewish community in Montreal. Housed within the Federation Strategy and Impact Pillar, the aim is to support the development and capacity of lay and professional leadership of the Jewish Community through a new body called the Leadership Development Institute.

The Director of the Leadership Development Institute (LDI) will oversee the execution of programs and processes aimed at leadership development, professional growth, and accountability across organizations in Jewish community context. Working collaboratively with members of the senior management team as well as select lay leaders and governance committee members, the Director proposes and builds strategies for developing and managing leadership empowerment and engagement initiatives across Federation CJA pillars and the community.

Duties

• Oversee all aspects related to the creation of a leadership development institute in support of Federation CJA’s strategic plan.
• Navigate across multiple leadership levels to grow, develop and coordinate lay and professional leadership opportunities across the Community.
• Coordinate and maintain a pipeline of potential volunteer leaders, and onboarding and offboarding volunteer leaders from various leadership development opportunities
• Serve as internal thought leader on leadership development and non-profit capacity building programs, staying current on literature, practices and networks in relevant fields including training and professional development, leadership development, coaching, and diversity
• Stay current on research and data to share impact and learnings from LDI with the broader staff, sponsors, donors, Board of Directors, adjunct faculty/trainers, and community
• Nurture and expand existing relationships and develop new client, funder, and partner relationships
• Build database and relationships with thought leaders, lay leaders and SMEs as well as with like-minded organizations in philanthropy, broader community spaces
• Recruit, hire, coordinate, and manage contracted trainers, thought leaders, consultants on an ad-hoc basis
• Develop Competency-based Leadership Framework and Leadership Philosophy approach, combined with current research and best practices in culturally focused programming and leadership development.
• Co-design and implement a performance and impact evaluation framework and strategic learning plan of the LDI, ensuring that key project outcomes are evaluated.
• Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support new and existing programs and the growth of LDI

Education, Knowledge and Skills

• 5-10 years of experience working in Leadership Development and / or HR related discipline
• Advanced degree in organizational development, non-profit sector, governance and public policy and public administration, organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or related discipline is preferred. Coaching certification is a plus.
• Track record of cultivating relationships with all levels of community leaders (lay, executive and professional)
• Track record of working on curriculum design for diverse stakeholders
• Track record of developing/working on capacity development programs or leadership development programs
• Ability to lead and manage multiple programs and resources, using an approach that reflects layers of strategic thinking, flexibility, efficiency and attention to detail, in a fast-paced environment
• Solution-driven with a keen ability to demonstrate a natural curiosity for leveraging leading edge practices across multiple fields and industries
• Effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, in both official language (English, French)
• Shows tact and diplomacy with a diversity of key stakeholders, including employees across all levels of the organization
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)
• Knowledge of the Montreal Jewish community an asset
