Stabbing incident in Monsey, New York by Jacques Bisson, Director, Community Security, Federation CJA

December 30, 2019

We are shocked and heartbroken by Saturday’s vicious attack in Monsey, New York, in which five Hasidic Jews were stabbed while celebrating the seventh night of Chanukah at a rabbi’s house. This is just the latest in a series of antisemitic incidents that have plagued the New York area in recent months. In light of these horrific events, we want to reassure you that Federation CJA and its advocacy agent the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) are in close contact with local and national law enforcement agencies and are comforted to report that there is no imminent threat to our community.

Through the Community Security Network (CSN), we remain vigilant about the rise of antisemitism here in Montreal, and dedicated to increasing community security and preparedness throughout our local Jewish schools, synagogues and institutions. The Montreal Jewish community is resilient, and we are committed to proudly maintaining our way of life.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families, and their loved ones, as well as the entire community. We pray for the swift recovery of the innocents who were injured.
