A Message from Steve Sebag & Yair Szlak: Drawing a Clear Line Against Hateful Protests

This week, our Jewish community has again been the target of deeply concerning acts of antisemitism. Aggressive mobs targeted key communal spaces such as the Federation CJA building and the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, showcasing a disturbing level of hostility and intimidation. In response, we've taken decisive legal action to protect our spaces and are advocating for stronger enforcement of public safety laws. As we navigate these challenges, the importance of unity, vigilance, and action has never been clearer. Join us in standing firm against hate and advocating for the safety and respect of Jewish institutions.

This International Women's Day, Amplify the Voices of Israeli Women

As we mark International Women's Day, it's crucial to highlight and amplify the voices of Israeli women who embody resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Let's commit to listening to and amplifying the voices of Israeli women. Let's honour their contributions, recognize their struggles, and support their fight for a world where the dignity and rights of every woman are upheld.

At the same time, we invite you to stand with Israel and advocate for justice by signing a crucial petition that demands the United Nations to acknowledge and act against the horrific crimes of sexual violence committed against Israeli women.

This is a call to end the silence on such atrocities and to ensure accountability and justice.

Standing Strong: A Week of Resilience and Unity

This week marked a pivotal challenge for our community with the onset of the so-called Israel Apartheid Week. Across Canadian campuses, a tide of bias, discrimination, and overt antisemitism targeted Jewish students and their supporters, threatening the fabric of our inclusive values.

In the face of this, we're calling on students to stand united like never before.

Combatting antisemitism on campus is crucial, and your commitment to reporting and addressing any incidents ensures a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. It's our time to prove that hate cannot break us.

SEE PROTOCOL

On Monday evening, despite attempts to silence us, our spirit shone brightly at the Federation CJA offices. A Hillel event initially cancelled at Concordia University, became a powerful gathering celebrating our culture and values, featuring Israeli advocates who joined us in solidarity against the delegitimization of Israel. Protesters tried to disrupt us, but the event went on, a testament to our unbreakable unity.

Let's stay vigilant, engaged, and supportive. Our collective action can shift the tide against hate. Your voice is vital. Together, we're not just stronger; we're unstoppable. Let's continue building a community where respect and inclusivity thrive.

Updates on Humanitarian Aid in Gaza & UNRWA's Role

Recent debates have underscored the critical need for humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza while spotlighting the complexities of aid delivery. There is a strong consensus on the necessity of support, yet concerns arise over the channels through which aid is administered. Amidst this, concerns about the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) have come to the forefront, especially following allegations of UNRWA employee involvement in the October 7 attacks. MPs Anthony Housefather and Marco Mendicino’s joint statement suggests that while humanitarian efforts are crucial, the delivery channels need reconsideration. They recommend that international aid be restructured to work through different partners, including like-minded nations such as the United States and the United Kingdom, to ensure that the assistance provided is both effective and secure.
