WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW

Action and Unity Against Growing Threats to Canadian Jewish Safety

In a recent, alarming message from the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), a stark reality has been laid bare: Canadian Jews are facing increasing threats and a growing sense of insecurity within our own country. This underscores a critical moment for our community and our nation at large, emphasizing the urgent need for vigilance and action to protect our fundamental rights and safety.

Federation CJA is responding with determination, implementing robust security measures, and engaging in proactive advocacy to ensure the safety and freedom of our community members. This involves direct collaboration with law enforcement and with the Government of Canada to enhance the security of our institutions and a concerted effort to influence policy for the better protection of Jewish Canadians.

“This additional funding for security infrastructure is a good start and will help us ensure the safety of our community in the West Island. Antisemitism is at record levels, and government investments are essential in securing our institutions.” – Yair Szlak, President and CEO of Federation CJA.

Stand Together in the Face of Hatred: A Message of Gratitude From the Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue

In the wake of last week's disturbing display of antisemitism, where various radical groups targeted the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue in Montreal with antisemitic vitriol, Rabbi Yeoshua Ellis and Hazan Daniel Benlolo have penned a powerful thank you letter to the Montreal Police (SPVM), Federation CJA and our CSN (Community Security Network), and the Jewish Community of Montreal for their unwavering support and solidarity. Their message shines a light on the courage and unity displayed in defending our shared values and community sanctity. It is a powerful reminder of the strength we hold when we come together against hatred and division.

Don't let Radicals Hijack Canadian Foreign Policy

By now, you’re already aware of the NDP motion that will call for immediate recognition of a Palestinian State, without any negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and without removing Hamas from power in Gaza. It also calls for the federal government to reinstate taxpayer funding to UNRWA – yes, that UNRWA, the one still under investigation for having employees who participated in the October 7 massacre of innocent Israeli children, women, and men.

But there’s an even bigger problem with the NDP’s motion: it's already finding support. It will be debated and voted on by all MPs next Monday.

If you haven't already done so, email Members of Parliament to vote "NO" to rewarding Hamas and changing Canada's longstanding foreign policy through CIJA's Action Alert.
