October 16, 2023

We are confronted with what is likely the greatest generational crisis we will face as Jews.

More than 1,300 Israeli deaths among civilians and the military, are being reported.  More than 2,800 have been injured.  Over 200 Israelis, including women and children, are being held captive by terrorists.

Over 5,000 rockets have been aimed toward civilian population centres all over Israel.

And in just eight days, we’ve seen our Montreal community #StandUp and take extraordinary action. Our first transfer of $6 million has already been sent overseas, and has been deployed to the following priorities, focused on the urgent needs of the moment:

Victims of Terror: Immediate assistance to the 2000+ families of individuals who have been killed, wounded, or kidnapped, through our partner, The Jewish Agency’s Victims of Terror Fund.

Evacuation and Support for Frontline Communities: Relocating significant numbers of people from high-risk areas and communities under fire. This includes native Israelis and Ethiopian and Ukrainian refugees who fled from conflicts in their homelands and are now facing the horrors of another war.

Emergency Medical Assistance and Healthcare: Medical supplies and equipment for first responders and hospitals in close proximity to the front line.

Today, the needs are extreme—and they will only grow in the coming weeks, as this conflict escalates. The extent of the destruction and loss of life is unimaginable. Your gift to our Israel Emergency Fund will be invested immediately in the organizations, programs, and equipment that are needed to save Israeli lives, right now and in the future. Federation CJA remains in close contact with our overseas partners, and we anticipate an unprecedented need for funds for the above and more, such as:

  • Essential supplies for Israelis from the Gaza border area sheltering in host communities. Water, food, clothing, medicine, baby products, generators, and other needed supplies for thousands evacuated from the war zone.
  • Protective equipment and emergency kits for first responders.
  • Assistance to vulnerable Holocaust survivors and other seniors in areas threatened by rocket fire. Through food packages, check-ins from professional staff, respite programs, and psychological counselling.
  • Trauma and emotional first aid. To fund mental health professionals to provide emergency support to frontline workers and devastated residents.

Federation CJA will absorb ALL administrative costs of this emergency appeal so that 100% of funds donated will provide critically needed aid.
