(Film link will be sent to you after registering). Following the film screening will be a live discussion via Zoom on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 8:00PM EST with Ian McGonigle, a Nanyang Assistant Professor of Global Science, Technology, and Society in the Division of Sociology at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Before joining NTU, he held postdoctoral positions at Tel Aviv University, Harvard University, and the University of Cambridge and he was the recipient of the competitive Israel Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship. Ian received a BA in Biochemistry with Cell Biology from Trinity College Dublin in 2007; a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge in 2010; an MA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 2013; and an AM in Social Anthropology, in 2015, and a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies and Anthropology, in 2018, from Harvard University. *About the film* After almost two thousand years in exile, Jews returned to their ancestral homeland and, in 1948, established the State of Israel. In 1967, when Israel conquered the West Bank from Jordan, Jews rushed to return to their Biblical roots in Judea and Samaria. Despite decades of bitter conflict with the resident Palestinians, Jews continue to settle these contested territories. Some regard this return as the realization of Biblical prophecies, as part of the process of redemption. This film attempts to understand the beliefs and motivations of the settlers through the stories of the region’s winemakers.
