Montrealers in March for Israel in Washington, D.C. call for the release of the hostages in Gaza, support for Israel

Montreal – November 15, 2023 – More than 200 Montrealers travelled to Washington, D.C. to join in the March for Israel with hundreds of thousands from across the continent to show our support for Israel, for freeing the hostages and to combat antisemitism. Dozens of students also participated.

“The March for Israel is a statement of solidarity against antisemitism and a call for the freedom of the hundreds of hostages captured by Hamas that are still missing,” said Steve Sebag, Chairman of Federation CJA who was among the attendees. “Antisemitism is on the rise. But we won’t let hate win. Now’s the time to take a stand and make our voices heard.”

Federation CJA helped to defray the costs for some 46 students to participate in this unforgettable experience, the largest ever assembly of Jews in North America.

“Having our Montreal students join in this one-day mission made the experience even more meaningful,” added Sebag. “Students are waging a parallel war every day on campus and we are proud and grateful for their strength, resilience and advocacy.”

Yair Szlak, President and CEO of Federation CJA said, “We’ve all seen the rallies of hatred and antisemitism, here in Montreal, and around the globe, glorifying the October 7 attacks. It is important to continue to stand up and to speak out. We must keep our voices loud, for the hostages, for Israel, for each other.”

Federation CJA has set up an Israel Emergency Campaign at FederationCJA.org.
