Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Development, the incumbent is responsible for Major Gift prospect identification, prospect research, analysis and reporting. Additionally this role will provide support to the fundraising unit in their solicitation and event preparation efforts.

Duties

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Provide in-depth research services including compiling biographical, financial, professional, philanthropic and capacity information on prospects;
• Prospect pool management and identification using electronic and print-based sources;
• Collect and maintain an inventory of information, resources and records to support FCJA’s fundraising team and prospect management needs;
• Develop and execute a prospect research plan that supports the revenue growth of multiple giving channels;
• Develop new strategies and recommend processes, policies and procedures for efficient prospect research activities and related database management;
• Identify and qualify potential major gift prospects using industry best practices;
• Rate donors and prospects in terms of inclination and capacity and consult with fundraising units on cultivation and solicitation strategies;
• Draft biographical, financial and philanthropic event bios and briefings on donors and prospective donors in support of staff and volunteer solicitation and event preparation efforts;
• Maintain moves management and prospect tracking systems to record, monitor and measure related fundraising;
• Monitor and communicate news, events and issues that impact on the FCJA’s fundraising strategies and philanthropic environment;
• Interpret, analyze and summarize biographical, business and financial data while adhering to FCJA, AFP and APRA standards of discretion and confidentiality;
• Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in non-profit management, programming and philanthropy.
• Respond in a timely way to requests for research and information

Education, Knowledge and Skills

• A bachelor’s degree in information studies, library science or an equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years of related experience with prospect/donor research preferably within a large dynamic not-for-profit environment (exposure to a fundraising environment an asset)
• Advanced expertise in prospect management and prospect tracking principles and methods and experience in monitoring the prospect clearance process preferred.
• Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data and for synthesizing complex information from multiple sources.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate in a tactful and professional matter in both English and French.
• Respectful and service oriented to donors, volunteers and peers at the FCJA.
• Works well in a diverse team environment with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Strong understanding of donor stewardship fundamentals preferred.
• Highly detail-oriented.
• Possesses an understanding and respect for discretion and confidentiality.
