Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Financial collaboration with the Development Officer will develop a long-term strategy for the department in order to achieve the financial goals of the Y. The Development Officer will contribute directly to the increase of revenues and other financial resource development vehicles by building and maintaining strong donor relationships, engaging in direct face-to-face solicitation. With the aim of securing donations, sponsorships and building long-term relationships with donors, the Development Officer will also guide/coach the lay leadership and other canvassers in securing major donations and sponsorships.


• Updating financial resource development product data base and support the development of product
• Researching, analyzing and developing new, creative and efficient methods of fundraising, in order to increase donations and sponsorships
• Recruiting and engaging in stewardship and cultivation of potential donors with an end goal of soliciting funds and increasing the revenue stream of the Y
• Cultivating, securing and managing long-term donor relationships
• Canvassing for and following up on donations and corporate sponsorships
• Account management for all secured sponsorship and recurring gifts
• Supporting lay leadership in securing major donations and sponsorships by coaching and motivating canvassers to focus on predetermined goals
• Supporting the development, coordination and smooth-running of all fundraising activities and events of the department, as required
• Prepare and coordinate committee meetings as they arise.

Education, Knowledge and Skills

• Holds a University degree
• 5 years of related experience as a fundraiser/canvasser and working with corporate sponsors
• Exceptional proofreading skills in both English and French
• Possesses strong analytical, planning, problem-solving and negotiation skills
• Takes initiative and is self-motivated, goal-driven and tenacious
• Professional demeanor and polished appearance
• Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Ability to deliver customer service at a superior level
• Ability to multi-task, while maintaining high level of attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish, develop and maintain key relationship with multiple stakeholders
• Effectively manages time in order to meet deadlines
• Possesses strong leadership skills
• Comfortable working with broad and sophisticated volunteers
• Flexibility and mobility required
• Familiarity with Montreal Jewish community
