Job Summary

The Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA is a high-spirited, health conscious community centre environment with great energy focused on making a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people in our community.
The Diller Teen Fellows program is an immersive experiential education program run through the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA for 10th- 11th graders designed to inspire and promote leadership among Jewish youth. This international program began in San Francisco 20 years ago and has since expanded to include 16 communities around the world, a growing number of international communities, and an equivalent number of 16 Israeli communities.

Duties

• Develop and lead scheduled workshops and retreats throughout the year in accordance with the Diller mission, vision, and goals
• Provide mentorship and guidance to 20 program participants, 2 Junior Counselors, Program Intern, and shinshin
• Manage marketing, recruitment, interviewing and selection process for 20 participants for each upcoming program year
• Design, co-lead, and supervise, in partnership with Israeli partner Coordinator, seminars in local community and in Israel
• Ongoing curriculum development and program evaluation in coordination with Diller program guidance
• Budget management with assistance from department head
• Active participation in local Advisory Committee meetings as needed
• Active participation in national and international conference calls and professional development seminars
• Promote the program locally in collaboration with other local organizations
• Engage parents of participating teens and local program alumni in focused ways that help them understand and contribute to the experience their teens are having
• Plan and manage all logistics related to workshops and retreats, service learning projects, Israel education and travel planning

Education, Knowledge and Skills

• BA in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Jewish Studies, or related field; MA preferred
• 2 to 4 years of experience developing and leading programming addressing Jewish identity development, youth leadership development, community service, and Israel education
• Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and extended travel throughout the year
• Initiative, resourcefulness; proven ability to work well independently and collaboratively
• Strong facilitation, education, organization, and communication skills required to effectively interact with, lead, and inspire a diverse body of teens, parents, community leaders and staff, as well as to effectively collaborate with partner agency staff;
• Excellent computer skills – Word, Excel, Facebook, emails. Knowledge of Formstack, Google Drive, Google Hangouts an asset.
• Ability to communicate in French and Hebrew a strong asset.
• Knowledge of the Montreal Jewish community, prior experience working collaboratively with community professionals, and prior experience with travel to Israel an asset.
