Job Summary

The Engagement and Advocacy Associate is responsible for the coordination and execution of assigned programs and efforts pertaining to Jewish life for the 17-24 demographic. They must attract and encourage involvement in diverse community initiatives aiming to create meaningful connections and engagement to Judaism, Israel, FCJA and the Montreal Jewish Community. They will coordinate and implement advocacy strategy, manage proactive and reactive efforts for all advocacy related issues in campus and develop necessary relationships to achieve identified goals.

Duties

• Establish, develop, and cultivate relationships with assigned groups to facilitate community engagement and reinforce annual fundraising efforts
• Create and execute proactive advocacy strategy, identify goals and measurable objectives in accordance with Hillel Montreal’s mandate
• Work in collaboration with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, Federation CJA’s primary advocacy partner, as well as collaborate with other clubs and organizations in order to further strategic advocacy objectives and strengthen organizational relationships
• Prepare for and respond effectively and strategically to anti-Israel/anti-Semitic incidents on campus in collaboration with CIJA and Federation CJA
• Provide support to Jewish and non-Jewish students affiliated with Hillel in pursuit of their advocacy interests, such as student political campaigns and referendums
• Cultivate student leadership and mobilize students towards advocacy objectives on and off campus
• Implement strategies to attract, recruit and engage participants
• Act as the resource-person for assigned constituents
• Ensure a high level of customer service by responding in a timely manner to inquiries from multiple organizations, professionals and clients
• Identify and engage potential volunteers and leaders within their assigned group age
• Ensure that volunteers and program participants are appropriately career-pathed
• Collaborate with the Director of Young Adult Engagement to implement and manage the integration of programs within the overall GenMTL structure
• Liaise and work closely with other departments of Federation CJA, affiliated agencies and other communal organizations.
• Develop, coordinate, and steward committees with volunteers and lay leaders

Education, Knowledge and Skills

• A University Degree in a relevant field.
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in engagement, fundraising or business development role, preferably in a not-for-profit or foundation environment
• Passion, confidence, comfort and knowledge in the spheres of advocacy and coalition building and the ability to engage others in such efforts
• Experience in program design, development and implementation
• Creative thinker and a self-starter who can work with minimum supervision or general guidance and instructions
• Experience establishing, developing, and maintaining key relationships with multiple stakeholders
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills in both English and French
• Must possess strong leadership skills and have the ability to lead people and get results
• Strong knowledge of Montreal Jewish Community and commitment to Federation CJA values
• Strong work ethic, organizational skills and ability to work in a multitasking environment.
• Knowledge of the MS Office suite
• The ability to engage this demographic comfortably in French is essential for this position.
