“My connection to the Gesher Chai program started in the 10th grade. On our trip to Montreal for Israel Memorial and Independence Day, we got to hear what our Canadian peers have to say about Israel, and to share our perspective with them. Then, we welcomed the delegation to Beer Sheva, which was exciting as we had become friends and kept in touch. Gesher Chai helped us to make connections with Canadian Jews that continued long after the visits ended. It helped all of us to see that we are not so different.
I want to see Gesher Chai continue to grow, so more Jewish students from all over the world can connect with each other. It is something that remains a part of you and can change everything: The way you look at life, the way you see yourself, the way you see Judaism."
Last year, over 5,000 students from 29 schools in Montreal and Israel participated in activities that help build relationships, sustain common bonds, and develop leadership skills to enhance Jewish vibrancy in our communities.

“It’s been one year since we participated on the Montreal Mega Mission to Israel. While on the trip, we were given the chance to get married atop Masada. It was magical! We were surrounded by 600 people from the community who made it so special.
Before the Mission I had never realized all of the opportunities there are to give back to the community. Since coming home, I really got involved: Serving meals to those in need at Le Café; making calls for the annual Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign; and joining Atid, a Women’s Philanthropy leadership training program.
The Mission changed our lives. And we’re very excited to be a part of a community that touches the lives of so many others.”
In 2014, Federation CJA's Montreal Mega Mission brought close to 600 people from a diverse cross-section of our community on the trip of a lifetime to Israel. Over 25% visited for their first time and 13.5% were under the age of 35.

"Federation CJA of Montreal has shown unwavering loyalty to the people of Beer Sheva. Its commitment, vision and flexibility - immensely valuable even during quiet times - really came to the fore last summer. Montreal's support helped us to minimize casualties, strengthen public morale, protect the most vulnerable individuals, and maintain a semblance of normality."
Thanks to the generosity of our community, Federation CJA raised over $1.6 Million toward the collective response to Israel's emergency needs during Operation Protective Edge and beyond.

“Every Tuesday, a volunteer comes to my home and drives me to my weekly get-together where I meet with a wonderful group of women who are all Holocaust survivors. These women are more than friends – they are like family. We support each other, sharing simchas, birthdays, photos of our grandchildren, and sending get well cards to those who are ill. There is entertainment, music, and laughter. When I return home, I feel relaxed and in a good mood all day.
Even though my children are not in Montreal, with the support of the community, I truly feel like somebody cares for me."
Last year, 2,230 Holocaust survivors living in Montreal benefited from services provided by Federation CJA funding, including psychosocial support, homecare, transportation, recreation, hospital visitations, meals on wheels, and day services.
