“I was at a drug rehab center when I was given a brochure for a study program that could help me improve my life. I had always passed by the university and felt it was a cold, distant structure. I feared that I wouldn’t belong. But that wasn’t the case. I was welcomed warmly and with love. From the first lesson, I came to realize that I wasn’t alone.

Every time I stepped foot in the university, I felt something I've never experienced before. The learning caused me to get more involved in my household and with my children. I now spend more time at home with my children. I really connect with them, which is something that didn't happen before. Because of the opportunity I was given to better myself, things have improved dramatically.”

6,000 children, youth and adults from Beer Sheva and Bnei Shimon’s most disadvantaged populations took part in Federation CJA-supported programs for families and youth at risk, like Access For All and Youth Futures.

"My daughter Leah is eight years old. For the past three years, she has participated in special family programming for her global developmental delay, which includes physical activities in the gym and the pool. Her balance, coordination, and gross motor skills have improved a lot, and over time, she has learned to walk!

As a family, we appreciate the respite and the joy that can be seen on Leah's face as she participates in activities that are adapted to meet her needs. Knowing that we have the support of the community gives me great peace of mind."

Thanks to your support, Federation CJA funds dozens of programs that enable 950+ individuals with disabilities to participate in Jewish communal life.

"Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, I eat dinner at Le Café. I've been coming here since the first night it opened, around Purim 2009. I like the food and the people I meet here, but my favourite thing is the volunteers. They all make me feel so welcome every time I walk through the door. Because of this community, I feel like my needs are truly understood."

Last year, Federation CJA served over 27,000 free, hot, kosher meals at Le Café to those in need, with 6% of recipients being children.

“My family and I left France in 2010 to immigrate to Montreal. Throughout our process of getting settled in, we relied on the invaluable help of the community. The advisors who accompanied us throughout that process are still with us today.

From the earliest steps, an advisor has supported our efforts. Once we obtained permanent residence, we fully took advantage of a mutual support network to establish ourselves and to find satisfactory jobs. From our first steps, we have been so supported that, little by little, we have found our place in Montreal's Jewish community.”

Last year, close to 1,700 immigrants received a wide range of support services including one-on-one counseling, to facilitate their integration into the Montreal Jewish community.
