“In my last year of university, I was uncertain about my future career plans. Being mentored allowed me to explore my ideas and made me feel supported at a transitional time in my life. Dany taught me so much and gave me the reassurance I needed. Mentors give young people the confidence to go out into the world as say ‘Yes, I can do this! Someone with experience believes in me.’ That changes lives.”

“I was approached to become a mentor and I have been bowled over by Mira’s intelligence, energy, and determination – all qualities that are so needed if one is to be an entrepreneur. This is a wonderful community project which supports young people, aids in the interaction and understanding between the generations, and encourages young people to stay in Montreal.”

Last year, thanks to your support, 2,235 young people participated in mentorships, leadership development programs, and networking opportunities, fostering excellence in future leaders.

“Two years ago we embarked on the roller coaster ride of starting our own business. We sought support from the community to get it off the ground and they helped in so many ways – from surrounding us with strong mentors who guided us through the process and helped build our network, to providing funding for the business. We’ve been extremely fortunate to benefit from this support!

Montreal has given us so much and we want to give back to our beloved city, so it was important for us to start our business here. As we’ve grown, we’ve returned the favour by hiring employees directly from the community employment services and will continue to do so as our business grows.”

Since 2000, Federation CJA has enabled thousands of young, Jewish entrepreneurs to receive professional mentorship and helped build 55 businesses here in Montreal through ProMontreal Entrepreneurs.

“I have faced many barriers in my life, including finding and being able to keep a job. I was on welfare until I started to work in a sheltered workshop here in Montreal. That was 16 years ago. Working here has given me self-confidence, many friendships, and the ability to live on my own as I earn a steady salary. I am a productive part of society, and now know the feeling of success.”

Federation CJA funds 23 different programs to ensure that individuals with disabilities can participate actively in community life.

“When I started CEGEP, I was looking for an immersive experience to complement my studies. I found a program where I could spend my winter break renovating schools in impoverished communities and tutoring children. The other participants and I spent our evenings delving into Jewish texts and trying to develop an understanding of what it means to be universally human while particularly Jewish. I returned to Montreal with a deeper appreciation of community building and made it a priority to contribute to the development of such programs. These opportunities have provided me with a wonderful platform to pursue my interests and I encourage others to do so as well."

Last year close 7,259 young Montrealers participated in leadership development programs, mentorships, and networking opportunities, which help to foster excellence in future leaders.
