How One Community Leader’s Judaica Collection Found a New Home
Montreal community leader and entrepreneur Irwin Tauben has spent the last 25 years collecting antique Jewish ritual objects from around the world. These Eastern European silver Judaica, soon to find a permanent home in the Gelber Conference Centre, have special meaning for Tauben.
“I am a child of Holocaust survivors,” Irwin said. “My parents' home, while beautiful, contained no family heirlooms. I began to look at the objects, themselves, as survivors, remnants of destruction and displacements. I realized that I was not just collecting, I was giving them a new home. While it was not easy to part with them, I am proud and pleased that these beautiful objects will be available for others to appreciate."
Learn more about Irwin’s collection from the Montreal Holocaust Museum’s Claire Guttadauro and collection curator Mika Benesh on Monday November 11th. A livestream of the event is also available.
