We Have Had Enough—a Call to Action Against Rising Antisemitism
As Jewish Canadians, we continue to face growing antisemitism in our communities. Jewish institutions are being increasingly targeted for hate crimes, evidenced by the overnight shooting at the Bais Chaya Mushka School for Girls this past weekend in Toronto and the escalating hostility from the McGill encampment here in Montreal. This week, another incident occurred with the overnight shooting at the Belz school near Outremont. And just last night, an incendiary device was thrown at the front doors of Congregation Schara Tzedeck synagogue in Vancouver, highlighting the alarming rise in antisemitic attacks across Canada.
We have had enough. Another overnight school shooting or synagogue firebombing in Canada is unacceptable. We call on Mayor Plante and all municipal leaders to take decisive action to protect our communities and restore order to the streets of Montreal. The safety and security of all citizens depend on it.

Another Unconscionable Attack on a Jewish School in Montreal
While a recent arrest provided some relief, this latest attack has shattered the already fragile sense of security within the Jewish community. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has reverberated locally, intensifying antisemitic incidents in Montreal. Political leaders have condemned the attack, but the community remains on edge as they call for more decisive action from authorities. For more details, read the full op-ed by Allison Hanes:

Hillel Neuer: A Leading Voice in Human Rights - Memorable Student Event
Last week, students had the unique opportunity to engage with Hillel Neuer, a leading voice in international human rights advocacy.
Neuer discussed his long-standing efforts to expose UNRWA staff’s links to terrorism, an issue the UN ignored until media attention after October 7. He highlighted the importance of upholding human rights standards and the challenges within the current international framework. Neuer also inspired students to continue supporting Israel from Montreal.
This impactful event was made possible through a collaboration between Federation CJA’s GenMTL, Hillel Montreal, AEJD, Chabad on Campus, JewDeMed, JLSA, StartUp Nation, The White & Blue, and our incredible student Co-Chairs, Adam Goren, Allan Hoffman, Amanda Rosenthal, Hayley Langleben, Lindsay Hayes.

Every day, I have the privilege of diving into an array of articles, videos, and podcasts that touch deeply on the issues close to our hearts. Here are a few standout pieces that have not only informed me but also provided profound insights into the complex narratives we navigate daily.
General Hillier Criticizes Canada's Failure to Combat Antisemitism
Retired General Rick Hillier has delivered a powerful critique of Canadian leadership's failure to combat antisemitism. He warns that this inaction not only threatens the Jewish community but also undermines the unity of all Canadians. Hillier emphasizes that rising antisemitic incidents impact the entire nation and calls for decisive action from political leaders to enforce laws against hatred and prevent the spread of violent rhetoric. His message is clear: inaction is unacceptable and endangers our country's values.

Irwin Cotler Criticizes ICC Prosecutor for Double Standards
In a compelling interview, former Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler criticizes ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan for seeking arrest warrants against Israeli leaders. Cotler accuses Khan of ignoring Israel's legal independence and violating the ICC's principle of complementarity by not allowing Israel sufficient time for internal legal processes. He argues that Khan's actions unfairly equate Israel with Hamas, undermining the ICC's credibility and weaponizing international law against Israel.

McGill and Concordia Acknowledge Significant Antisemitism Issues on Campus
In a recent House of Commons committee meeting, the presidents of McGill and Concordia universities admitted that antisemitism is a "significant problem" on their campuses.
