Statement from Yair Szlak, CEO and President of Federation CJA, on the ICC Decision to Prosecute Israeli Leaders
The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) recent decision to pursue warrants against Israel’s elected leaders and defence officials is both appalling and deeply misguided. This action represents one of the most unjust decisions ever taken by an international body and further undermines the already fragile credibility of the ICC. Equating Israel’s right to defend itself against brutal terrorist attacks with the actions of the genocidal terrorist organizations responsible for these attacks is utterly unacceptable.
Israel, a democratic nation committed to the protection of all civilians in accordance with international law, is being unfairly targeted while the ICC ignores genuine human rights violators around the globe. This selective and biased prosecution is nothing short of antisemitism. If the ICC hopes to retain any semblance of legitimacy, it must dismiss these baseless warrants against Israel.

Campaign Success. There’s still time to support Jewish students!
This year’s Hillel Global Giving Week was our most successful to date. We are deeply grateful to those generous community members who readily stepped up to give. The matching gift may have expired, but the need to support students like Sarah, who reflects here on her experience on campus this year, remains as relevant as ever. Your gift today will help Hillel continue its vital work with students still on campus and be ready to welcome back a new cohort in the fall. While tensions remain high, we anticipate Jewish students will continue to face antisemitism on campuses, from verbal attacks to physical intimidation. Hillel will be there to provide mental health support, leadership training, guide advocacy efforts, and build a strong sense of community. Stand with us to ensure our students feel safe and proud of their identity.

Suspect Charged in Shooting at Jewish School in Montreal
A significant development has occurred in the investigation of last fall's shooting at a Jewish school in Montreal. Abdirazak Mahdi Ahmed, 20, has been charged with intentionally discharging a firearm at Yeshiva Gedola School in Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, among other charges. This arrest follows a series of violent acts targeting the Jewish community in the area.
Yair Szlak, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federation CJA, made the following statement:
“Our community had already made significant investments in terms of security, and this attack has forced us to redouble our efforts in this area. We do a tremendous amount of work with our Community Security Network to ensure the safety of our community. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that the quality of Jewish life in Montreal is protected and that acts of hatred on our streets, on our campuses and targeting our community, schools and institutions are not tolerated. We thank the SPVM for their work in this investigation and hope that this arrest will make it clear that such actions are unacceptable in Quebec.”
