The Power of Jewish Summer Camp
Last summer, Federation CJA gave young newcomers from Ukraine the opportunity of a lifetime: Sending 14 kids to Camp B’nai Brith for an unforgettable experience at Jewish sleepaway camp. One such child is Eliso:
“My daughter participated in the 2023 summer program, and it was the time of her life. I can say that camp had the best therapeutic effect. When we came to Canada, my daughter was afraid of all loud sounds as she associated them with the war. After camp, she started to sleep better, and she stopped being afraid of loud sounds. I was really impressed when she even enjoyed the fireworks at the end of camp. I can say that I sent a very stressed child to camp, and I got back a very happy child. Thank you!” - Victoria, mom of Eliso, CBB camper and week at CBB for Ukrainian kids participant.
Jewish overnight camps are more than just a summer getaway; they are pivotal in shaping and strengthening Jewish identity. According to research, 7 out of 10 young Jewish leaders attended Jewish camp, and campers are significantly more likely to feel emotionally attached to Israel as adults. Last week, Montreal parents waved goodbye to their children as they went off to Jewish overnight camp.
