Leadership Development Micro-Grant
The Leadership Development Hub (LD Hub), with the support of Federation CJA and the Jewish Community Foundation (JCF), is thrilled to announce the launch of the Leadership Development Micro-Grant Program, an exciting new micro-grant opportunity offering up to $5,000 per grantee to foster professional growth within the Montreal Jewish community.
This micro-grant program is designed to empower talented individuals by providing the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers and strengthen their organizations. Whether you want to enhance your leadership abilities, improve your management techniques, or expand your professional network, this grant offers a unique opportunity to invest in your future and make a lasting impact on the community.
Objective
Organizational strength and success greatly rely on reinforcing a healthy leadership and management culture in the workplace. A key element to this are the talented staff in our Jewish organizational ecosystem.
The main goal of this new micro-grant program is to help eligible applicants acquire the necessary skills and tools for professional growth in their learning and leadership journeys and, by extension, to strengthen their organizations.
Key objectives of what the micro-grant program aims to achieve in terms of leadership development for professionals:
- Strengthen essential leadership competencies tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities within the Jewish communal organizations.
- Improve management skills to optimize organizational processes, resource utilization, and strategic decision-making.
Micro-Grant parameters & eligibility
Grant amount: Up to $5000 CAD per grantee
Grant duration: The grant will be eligible over a 12-month duration from date of acceptance.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for funding, applicants must:
- Be presently employed at a mid-level to senior management role in a Montreal-based Jewish registered non-profit organization serving the Montreal Jewish Community
- Have at least 2 years of experience in their organizations or be recommended by the organization’s executive
- Submit the program/courses they wish to enroll into as part of their application, along with a summary explanation of how they intend to transfer what they learned into their work, and the work of the organization
- Provide a letter of support from their supervisor that includes a brief explanation of the goal, and extent to which they would like the course to strengthen the applicant’s role, skills, capacity, etc.
In addition:
- The immediate supervisor should also sign the application and by doing so, acknowledges that he or she commits to support the transfer of learning from the grantee to the grantee's role and to the work of the organization.
NOTE: Once an applicant becomes a recipient, they will no longer be eligible to apply for another micro-grant.
Expenses that can be claimed within funding agreement:
- Tuition costs
- Travel and accommodation related to attending training outside of Montreal (if the total allocation for the participant has not already reached $5000 CAD)
- Course materials
- Per Diem up to $100 CAD/day
Not eligible under the funding agreement
Federation CJA will not fund the following expenses:
- Expenses incurred prior to the application’s date of approval
- Travel costs beyond what is earmarked for travel to and from the activity (if outside Montreal)
- Any travel expenses beyond the scope of learning sessions
Examples of courses/programs supported through grant program
Applicants can choose the learning programs they wish to pursue. Programs should be related to management and/or leadership development and/or Jewish leadership. Programs can be institution-based (McGill, Concordia, Northwestern etc.) or professional organizations and associations that offer such training. In addition, programs chosen can be diploma or certification-based or a series of courses or workshops. The mode of delivery may be in-person or online. Programs may be In English or French (or both).
Applications should include a description of the program and its associated costs.
Examples of areas that would qualify for funding through the grant, but not limited to:
- Strategic management
- Change management
- Nonprofit management
- Talent management
- Problem solving
- Coaching
- Communication skills- listening, constructive feedback, effective communication, Presentation and oral and written skills, data selection, communicating vision
- Team building, engagement, and mobilization
- Conflict resolution and negotiation
- Soft skills- emotional intelligence and self-awareness, interpersonal relationships
- Adaptive leadership
- Collaborative leadership
- Creative leadership
- Innovative leadership
- Governance structures
- Community diplomacy/advocacy
Below are examples of courses/programs that would be eligible for such a micro-grant. The grant available is not limited to the programs listed below.
How and When to Apply
- Application platform will open June 10th, 2024 and will be open until funds are fully dispersed.
- Review of applications will take place starting June 30, 2024 and on a rolling basis thereafter.
- The grant will be eligible over a 12-month duration from date of acceptance.
