For further information, please call: 514-840-9300 Siach Hasadeh: Formed on a Saturday night in the Laurentian Mountains (Quebec), Siach HaSadeh explores and performs off the beaten track Chassidic and spiritual Jewish melodies, primarily from the early sages of the Chassidic movement, as well as some piyutim from the Eastern Jewish traditions - music that was used to express the deepest emotions, and to attain spiritual heights and closeness to the Creator, in dveikus. Much of the repertoire comes from songs as they are sung in the Chassidic communities of today, as well as from early 20th century recordings from Europe, and a collection of transcriptions from a long lost uncle in Staszow, Poland. The approach to the material is reverential, and minimalist, but also improvisatory and bringing the voices of the two musicians (and guests) into the mix. The music draws on their diverse musical background and experience, without losing touch with the original intent. Featuring: Yoni Kaston (clarinet/banjo) and Joel Kerr (bass). Tevet Sela & Jason Rosenblatt Quartet: A creative force with a luscious tone, alto saxophonist Tevet Sela brings a wealth and breadth of influences to his playing that few musicians possess. This adept and dexterous post bopper's music is often drenched in heavy blues and the Middle-Eastern inflections of his Israeli cultural heritage. It is this last influence that Tevet delves into with his latest project, a collaboration with composer, harmonicist and pianist Jason Rosenblatt. Rosenblatt's rare skill on the harmonica can be both mind blowing and soulful. His penchant for Eastern-European music rounds out the project and helps to provide a complete spectrum of Jewish sounds from East to West. Featuring Jason Rosenblatt (Piano, Harmonica), Tevet Sela (Sax), Joel Kerr (Bass) and Martin Auguste (Drums).
