How to define Jewish music? What are the contents, contexts, patterns and tones that characterize it? The multiple exiles and the diversity of cultures to which the Jews have been exposed throughout their history have tinted their music in a multitude of colors and tones. Can we delimit the contours of "Jewish music" properly talk? Musician and musicologist Hélène Engel will try to answer this question during an interview with Yolande Amzallag. Classical singer, musicologist, songwriter, interpreter and arranger, Hélène Engel is a specialist in Jewish folklore, and sings in Yiddish, Hebrew, Judeo-Spanish, as well only in French and English. She recorded 5 CDs and participated to numerous concerts and festivals in France, Europe and in North America. She created and hosted on Radio Shalom the program "The Hidden Faces of Jewish Music" from 2007 to 2016, and since 2017 "Enchanted Jewish Culture".
