In this week’s 360 we honour Lori Gilbert-Kaye z”l, who died protecting her rabbi during last Saturday’s horrific antisemitic synagogue attack in California; as well as the three others who were injured. We also honour the bravery of those who confronted the attacker and shepherded the congregants to safety. On behalf of the Montreal Jewish community, we express our profound sorrow and stand in solidarity with our fellow Jews in Poway and the State of California. Shabbat Shalom.

Poway shooting leaves Montreal relatives shaken
Last Saturday’s deadly synagogue attack hit close to home for Rabbi Binyamin and Karen Bresinger, whose daughter is married to the son of Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, the spiritual leader of Chabad of Poway who was shot during the attack.

Daughter of Poway victim gives beautiful and heartbreaking eulogy
Kaye’s mother, Lori Gilbert-Kaye, was the only victim to lose her life after a gunman opened fired in the synagogue near San Diego, six months to the day after the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh.

Community unites against antisemitism
Some 1,200 people came out on Monday for a night of “unity, prayer and inspiration” at the Montreal Torah Centre in Hampstead, organized by Federation CJA, Chabad Lubavitch of Montreal, and the Jewish Community Council of Montreal.

New York Times says its controversial cartoon shows ‘numbness’ to anti-Semitism
The cartoon, which appeared Thursday in the opinion section of the newspaper’s international print edition, depicted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a dachshund-breed guide dog wearing a Star of David collar and leading a yarmulke-clad President Donald Trump.
