During a visit earlier this year, Israeli activist Rudy Rochman shared his story of being incarcerated in Nigeria after he brought a Torah to the Jewish community. Inspired by his story, Federation CJA wanted to help the Igbo Jewish community of Nigeria currently facing the threat of antisemitism.
Federation CJA volunteers have since mobilized to send support overseas in the form of Jewish ritual items in an effort to encourage the Igbo community to maintain their Judaism in the face of antisemitism and persecution from their local government. Over the past few weeks, over 50 volunteers have donated and collected over 100 Jewish ritual items such as siddurim, Midrashim, machzorim, tefillin, tallitot, etc. to send directly to the Igbo community, hoping to reach 200 villagers in Ogidi from the Igbo Jewish population in Anambra State of Nigeria.
