This week's top story is the shocking attack on a Kosher grocery store in Jersey City, which left a veteran police officer and three civilians dead. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families, and their loved ones, as well as the entire community. We stand in solidarity with New Jersey in praying for the injured and mourning the dead. May their memories be a blessing. Shabbat Shalom.

Federation CJA's Israel and Overseas Committee: Ukraine and Israel Mission

Did you know that there are 400,000 Jews living in Ukraine today, including 60,000 in the capital of Kiev? Federation CJA's Israel and Overseas Committee recently went on a Mission to Ukraine and Israel to see firsthand how your dollars are helping our community's most vulnerable.

In Ukraine, the group visited the Hesed B'nai Azriel Centre for seniors and learned about the crucial programs and services offered there, including food, medication, and physical and cultural activities for Holocaust survivors. They also spent quality time with children and young adults at Holom, an innovative JCC.

In Israel, the group witnessed firsthand the fruits of ongoing innovation, development and people-to-people connections in Federation CJA's partnership region of Beer Sheva and Bnai Shimon. They had the privilege of participating in a dedication ceremony alongside the Mayor of Beer Sheva, as the first Municipal Mobile Forward Command Unit was unveiled – a high-tech first response vehicle made possible through generous donations from Federation CJA and Jewish Federations of Canada - UIA.
