We are, we can, we do I am one of the 20 Lions of Judah from Montreal who joined 1,100 other Lions from different cities across Canada, the United States of America as well as Lions from Israel and France, and who attended the International Lion of Judah Conference on November 8th to 10th in New Orleans. The three-day conference was a most renewed and enriching experience for me, and once again a time of camaraderie when connecting with my fellow Lions from Montreal and abroad. It was a momentous opportunity to build synergies – to learn and to bond with other Lions who share the same passion for caring and taking action – and who are deeply committed to their community and to the State of Israel. It was also a moment of warmth, laughter and celebration. It was a moment of self-reflection about our priorities and our values. My participation in the most recent November 2010 International Lion of Judah Conference in New Orleans – in addition to the one in Washington in 2004 – solidified my vision and reinforced my attachment to the Montreal Jewish community and to the State of Israel. The conference exposed me to the breadth of the philanthropy in which we are involved in – through the giving and doing for our community – while ensuring the future of Israel. In the different proposed workshops we chose to attend, we heard about the incredible work of our counterparts in North America, In Israel and around the world. It was so motivating for 1,100 women to hear such fabulous speakers and caring Jewish leaders, like Netanyahu, Tsipi Livni, moving speakers from Vancouver, the US, and from France, who while sharing their message and reminding us of our Jewish responsibility to one another, taught us, motivated us and inspired us as philanthropists and leaders. Their generosity in soul and spirit was so powerful and energizing! The reward of doing is the opportunity to do more… We can change the world as individuals or together but we work best when we work together. We are, we can and we do! Hope you’ll join us in 2012 for the next International Lion of Judah conference. Arlene Abitan |
