Maimonides Geriatric Centre strives to provide the best possible quality geriatric care to the frail elderly Jewish population of the Province of Quebec.
Volunteers play a large role in enhancing the therapeutic milieu of the institution. The Department of Volunteer Services at Maimonides Geriatric Centre acts as a liaison between residents, staff, volunteers, and the community. By keeping abreast of the needs and concerns of the residents, it can then assign volunteers to respond to those needs. On a more global dimension, the department is alerted to modern trends in volunteerism through committees, conferences, etc., and spreads this message to the community as well.

WHAT IS M.I.S.S.I.V.E.?
Maimonides Intensive Summer Session for Individual Volunteer Experience is a unique volunteer program for students between the ages of 16-30. The aim is to provide students who are contemplating a career in a healthcare related profession with an interdisciplinary experience of working with older adults.
Students will be directly involved in various aspects of the hospital-like setting.
We are currently recruiting and interviewing students for summer 2007’s 8-week volunteer ‘stage’ program. The program runs from June 26 to August 17, 2007; 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
PARAPROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM:
Put a lifetime of skills and experience to good use by becoming a paraprofessional volunteer at Maimonides Geriatric Centre. Work experience or life experience, you can make a huge impact on the lives of our residents by sharing what you know and working alongside professional staff.
The program involves committing to 4-6 flexible hours per week, (3 8-week sessions over 2 years), weekly educational sessions, diverse placements – special projects and being part of a dynamic team. A certificate of participation is awarded at the end of the program requirements.
While using your skills to help others, you will make valuable contacts, develop further skills and gain personal satisfaction and development.
