Our commitment to Jewish continuity

Federation CJA has, as a core value, excellent and affordable Jewish day school education.  We recognize that today's economic realities are making the choice of a Jewish education challenging for many families in our community.  This is why we are partnering with generous and visionary donors and the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal to launch an innovative initiative, the Generations Fund for Educational Excellence.

The Generations Fund for Educational Excellence is based on the premise that by supporting middle-income families with a tuition reduction, they will be better positioned to choose a Jewish day school education for their children.  At the same time, the Fund will help our schools achieve higher levels of excellence, making Jewish day school an even more compelling option for our community.

Depending on family income and the number of children attending Jewish day school, families may qualify for a tuition reduction, which will lower the actual cost of tuition for them at the school(s) of their choice.  The amount by which a family's tuition is reduced will then be covered by the Fund.  The goal is to sustain or increase this funding over the years the children are in school.

Our first funding round has shown us that the Fund will be able to help over 420 children with a tuition reduction.  This was based solely on an objective assessment of family income levels and the cost of education at their selected schools. Together with committed donors, Federation CJA is working to increase the value of the Fund so that it will be able to support an even greater number of families in the coming years and further assist our day schools in their pursuit of excellence.

It is important to note that while the Fund is specifically targeted at easing the financial strain of a Jewish day school education for middle-income families, Federation CJA maintains its support of close to 3,000 students from lower income families through its Tuition Assistance Allocation.

The key to a strong Jewish day school system is excellence in education.  Federation CJA is tremendously proud of this cutting-edge initiative which will support excellence and affordability in our Jewish day schools, ultimately ensuring they remain the best that North America has to offer.
