Over $380,000 raised for Haiti Relief

Donations to FEDERATION CJA's Haiti Relief Fund have reached over $380,000 to date. Every dollar donated to the fund is being disbursed through three organizations currently on the ground in Haiti: Canadian Red Cross (www.redcross.ca), ONEXONE Foundation (www.ONEXONE.org) and the Heart to Heart Foundation (www.hearttoheart.org) through the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC at www.jdc.org). FEDERATION CJA takes no administrative fees from the donations.

  • A community donation of $50,000 was announced during the Ensemble pour Haïti benefit concert and telethon, which aired simultaneously on French-language Quebec television stations on January 22.
  • Federation has partnered with Aldo Groupe, which implemented a matching program for all donations made by head office employees to the fund and also implemented a program for all their store employees. .
  • Jewish day schools have initiated their own fundraising efforts, with money going to Federation's relief fund. Participating schools include Akiva School, École Maïmonide, Hebrew Academy, Jewish People's and Peretz Schools, Bialik High School, United Talmud Torahs and Herzliah High Schools, Hebrew Foundation School and Solomon Schechter Academy.
  • Profits from the Segal Centre for Performing Arts' CBC Routes Montreal concert with folk singer Connie Kaldor, on January 26, were given to the Canadian Red Cross for Haiti.
