FEDERATION CJA certified green FEDERATION CJA has had its comprehensive Work Green program certified by BOMA, Canada’s national environmental certification program for commercial buildings. Conformity with BOMA best practices demonstrates social responsibility and the federation’s commitment to ensuring a green environment for its employees and everyone who uses its facilities at Montreal’s Jewish community campus. FEDERATION CJA joins close to 100 other buildings in Montreal that have passed a BOMA audit verifying compliance with its strict environmental standards. In order to achieve its certification, FEDERATION CJA has, among other steps, greatly reduced its use of electricity, has eliminated the use of most disposable cutlery and dishes in its food service, and provided recycling bins in every office. As well, recycling stations have been placed in the lobby of Cummings House, at the Gelber Conference Centre, and in the Federation's 4th floor conference rooms. Management has put in place the infrastructure for the successful greening of the federation premises. Now, it is up to everyone to do their part by ensuring that recyclables are put in the proper bins (one contaminant results in an entire bag being rejected by the recycling plant), printing doubled-sided to minimize paper use, and closing lights and computers at the end of the day to reduce electricity consumption. BOMA certification is in place for three years, at which point FEDERATION CJA invites another audit to reaffirm that it is a successful green space. The Work Green Initiative is co-chaired by Brenda Gewurz and Nancy Rosenfeld. For more information, please check www.federationcja.org/en/who/green/ |
