Women’s Campaign 2011 raises over $6.8 million for Combined Jewish Appeal

An increase over last year of $209,000 on a card-for-card basis

Combined Jewish Appeal 2011 is officially finished and what an exciting year it has been! Many years ago my father taught me that “no”, “I’m not sure”,” maybe” and “whatever” were not an option. So when I started building my Campaign team, I tried to engage as many people as I could. Wherever I went, I asked for help and almost everyone I asked was willing to volunteer to help the needy of our community.

And together, we have accomplished so much! Our Women’s Campaign has raised over $6.8 million. This money is not just a number – it represents thousands and thousands of lives that will now be helped because of you. It represents healthy and hot meals that will go into the mouths of children in need. It represents job counseling to help families get back on their feet. It represents Meals on Wheels to isolated seniors. It represents educational assistance to youth at risk in Israel. It represents hope and it represents help. It represents community.

I thank each and every one of you. I was honoured to be the Chair this year, but in truth, everyone helped make this year’s Campaign a success. I am truly appreciative to have played a small part in helping the Montreal Jewish community. It is a great community filled with people who care deeply. The biggest lesson that I learned this year was how special the people of this community really are. I am confident that we are passing on the torch to another team that will be equally committed and successful.

I thank you for allowing me to dream a better future. I thank you for allowing me to open up and share my heart. I thank you for the new friendships that I have made. I thank you for this wonderful opportunity.

Sincerely,

Nancy Ditkofsky
Chair, Women’s Campaign 2011

Why a Woman Should Give an Individual Gift?

The are many women who say,
“We give as a family.”
Why should each woman give a separate gift?

  BECAUSE we are individuals.
We have the ability to demonstrate our personal commitment to Jewish life by making our own pledge. We are asserting ourselves in all fields of endeavour and should not abdicate responsibility in the vital area of philanthropy.
BECAUSE  many women have access to more  resources than ever.
We are managing the finances of the largest spousal and generational transfer of wealth ever.
BECAUSE your individual and our collective women’s gifts matter.
Annually, nearly $10 million from women’s individual gifts play a major role in meeting the needs of Jews in Montreal, in Israel and throughout the world.
BECAUSE we impact Jewish political power.
Your individual pledge is an essential vote for Jewish survival – one that reverberates through the heart of our community.

We have a choice. We can either hope that someone else
will do it OR we can ensure the vitality of world Jewry ourselves.
Our individual gift will affect the vitality of the
community in which we – and our children and
grandchildren – live.

“It is not given to all of us to make history…
but it is given to each and every one of us to be a part of history.”
