- 50% increase in financial assistance requests receivedfrom new immigrants who have recently lost their entry-level employment.
- 40% increase in requests for the Good Food Box, a program that provides high-quality, nutritious food at low cost.
- 18% increase in visits to Project Genesis for legal advice and tenant advocacy.
- 500 meals are being served every week at Le Café for anyone who needs free, hot, kosher dinners.
- $3.6 million shortfall in revenue due to reduced income from the 2008 Campaign and earnings from capital, unfulfilled pledges, as well as anticipated increase in demand for the coming year.
ONGOING NEEDS
- More than 17,000 Jews in Montreal, including over 3,700 children, live below the poverty line.
- More than 3,500 elderly Jews in Montreal live below the poverty line, including over 1,000 Holocaust survivors.
- Over 2,900 children depend on tuition assistance subsidies for their education, which represents nearly half of the students in the Jewish education system.
- 85% of the children attending Camp B’nai Brith do so because of community subsidies.
