The 2011 Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign inspired over 16,000 members of the community to take action for one another, raising over a projected $41.1 million during the three-month campaign season.

“Once again, our community has proven that it is amongst the most generous in the Jewish world,” said Federation CJA President David Cape, noting that a recent comparative analysis of large federated cities across North America indicated that Montreal is the second highest in per capita giving over other large federated cities. “On behalf of all the recipients for whom you have made a significant impact, thank you to all our donors and to all our dedicated volunteers. Thousands of people depend on the services provided by our family of agencies every single day and you have helped make a critical difference in their lives.”

The regular annual Campaign total of nearly $37.5 million, over $1 million more than last year on a card-for-card basis, is most impressive because it includes 1,769 new donors this year, totaling $783,000. Nearly $900,000 of the grand total is marked as one-time gifts and more than $2.8 million are designated gifts for local and Israel projects.

CJA11’s phenomenal success would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of close to 1,000 canvassers. Sincere congratulations go out to all of these volunteers and to the Campaign leadership team of Martin Schwartz, General Campaign Chair; Nancy Ditkofsky, Women’s Campaign Chair; Gerard Abitbol, Sepharade Campaign Chair; David Amiel, YAD Campaign Chair; and Corey Omer and Jason Paperman, YAD FedNext Campaign Co-Chairs for their outstanding achievement.

“Now the complex work of allocating the funds begins,” Cape said. “A dedicated team of volunteers and professionals will ensure that the money raised is allocated to achieve the greatest possible degree of good for our community.”
