The Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA) c/o Catherine Morrow Tel: 416 925-7499 x 224 CIJA is an umbrella organization for Jewish community advocacy efforts, helping to improve the quality of Jewish life in Canada, increase support for Israel, and strengthen the Canada-Israel relationship. CIJA brings together such organizations as the Canadian Jewish Congress, the Canada-Israel Committee and Quebec Israel Committee, the National Committee for Jewish Campus Life, and others. CIJA is an initiative of UIA Federations Canada, with the Canadian Jewish Federations and Regional Communities. CIJA’s primary mandate involves dialogue with non-Jewish communities to establish context and foster understanding among those outside the Jewish Community of issues important to Canadian Jews and Israel. CIJA is reaching out to communities previously left outside the context of Jewish issues including, among many: interfaith organizations, Christian Churches, moderate Muslims, and the Jewish and non-Jewish political left. With the aim of promoting and advancing all aspects of the Canada-Israel relationship, the CIC communicates on a regular basis with government officials, journalists, academics and others who have an impact on public opinion in Canada. It is affiliated with the Quebec-Israel Committee. Quebec-Israel Committee (QIC) 
1, Cummings Square Tel.: (514) 934-0771 Affiliated with the Canada-Israel Committee and a part of the CIJA (Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy) family of agencies, the Quebec-Israel Committee is mandated by the Jewish community of Quebec to transmit the community’s concerns and opinions about Israel to all segments and structures of Quebec society. Our key target audiences include media, government, the voluntary sector, students, academics, and the business community. Our objective is to improve the level of understanding of and support for Israel among Quebecers. Our principal activities include study trips to Israel, media monitoring and response, and innovative Israel advocacy programming. Quebec Jewish Congress, a division of Canadian Jewish Congress 1 Cummings Square Canadian Jewish Congress has served for more than 90 years as the voice of Canada’s Jewish community in matters of public policy and the defense of human rights. Quebec Jewish Congress (QJC) – its Quebec wing – implements national policy initiatives at the regional level while acting as the official spokes-body for the Quebec Jewish community. QJC leadership and staff work to promote and defend issues and ideals of particular importance to the Jewish community, serving as a resource to governments, other cultural communities, other non-governmental organizations and the media on behalf of the Jewish community of Quebec. QJC promotes and defends human rights, protects and represents the interests of the Jewish community, and combats antisemitism and racism in all its forms. QJC staff and volunteers participate in a variety of activities, coalitions and programs to guide the organization on these issues. Additionally, the Quebec Jewish Congress Charities Committee (QJCCC) supports community partners across Quebec by encouraging communal interfaith and intercultural dialogue through participation with groups such as Christian-Jewish Dialogue and Muslim-Jewish Dialogue. GOVERNMENT RELATIONS QJC’s President, Board and staff meet regularly with our government representatives at all levels in order to promote the issues and concerns of Quebec’s Jewish community. Developments in legislation and politics are regularly monitored so that QJC leadership can act on an immediate basis where the interests of the community are involved. QJC also promotes legislation and activities promoting human rights and combating all forms of racism. Through our annual Mission to Quebec City, we provide the Jewish communal leadership with an opportunity to meet with Ministers and opposition critics to sensitize our political leadership about the Quebec Jewish community’s issues and concerns.
QJC is at the forefront of the battle for human rights, partnering with other human rights groups to raise awareness and bring relief to so many victims of human rights abuses here and around the world. For instance, QJC was the first local organization to shine a spotlight on the horrific situation in Darfur. This led to the birth of Human Promise –a non-denominational youth group funded by QJCCC– which focuses on bringing relief to victims of the genocide in Darfur. QJC also secured a motion in Quebec’s National Assembly recognizing the 15th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda and has worked with the Rwandan community to raise awareness and help the victims of the Rwandan genocide. QJC has been there side-by-side with other human rights groups to raise awareness on a variety of other issues on the back burners. For instance, QJC regularly participates in the annual Week Against Racism and in Black History Month, to name just two.
OUTREACH Outreach on behalf of the Quebec Jewish community is a longstanding tradition at QJC. Aside from the support provided by QJCCC to groups such Christian-Jewish Dialogue and as Muslim-Jewish Dialogue, QJC representatives are involved in myriad of cross-cultural activities that take place on a regular basis throughout the City of Montreal and beyond. QJC also brings programs to the Regions of Quebec that lie outside the major metropolitan areas, creating opportunities for Jews and non-Jews alike to strengthen relationships and forge new ones. National Jewish Campus Life (NJCL) The National Committee for Jewish Campus Life (NJCL) is the voice of students across Canada working to enhance the quality of Jewish life on campus and promote understanding of the Canada-Israel relationship.
