Shawna Goodman-Sone

Shawna Goodman-Sone is a graduate of McGill University with a B.A. in Art History. She then pursued studies as a chef, graduating from the Natural Gourmet Cooking School and in pastry arts at the Institute of Culinary Education (formerly, Peter Kump’s Cooking School), both in New York City. She has also trained at the Cordon Bleu School in Paris. For the past 15 years she has been teaching, catering and cooking for clients in New York, Philadelphia, Toronto and Montreal, where she now lives.

Shawna’s dedication to the Jewish community of Montreal has led her to success in major leadership roles among young adult initiatives. She is a graduate of the YAD Leadership Development Program, served as YAD Campaign Chair in 2010, and is currently a member of the Women’s Philanthropy Executive. She is involved as a volunteer with The Akiva School and is on the Board of Directors at Camp Ramah.

She was awarded this honour by YAD because she is a young leader who leads by example. She brings tremendous passion and devotion to her volunteer work and provides a degree of innovation and creativity that is exceptional.

Shawna is the editor of the recently published cookbook, Panache, Montreal’s Flair for Kosher Cooking, a project of the Auxiliary of the Jewish General Hospital. The book is a collection of both heirloom and modern recipes of Montreal’s diverse Jewish community that have been thoroughly tested. Now in its third printing, the cookbook has raised over $160,000 for the JGH Emergency department. Shawna is a regular instructor at Loblaws and continues to provide private culinary instruction in clients’ personal home kitchens.

Shawna is married to Todd Sone and has three sons, Zachary, Andrew and Nathaniel.
